  • The mission of the Wells Branch Community Library is to provide access to reference and reading materials and programs in the form of print or other media to people within the Wells Branch Community and neighboring areas. The Wells Branch Library District is funded by sales taxes collected at businesses between IH 35 and Burnet Rd, Howard Lane and the upper end of Bratton Lane at Round Rock by IH 35.Tax revenues for 2006 totaled $536,596.00. The library also receives income from State and corporate grants, fees, and donations. The District adopted a budget for 2007 of $537,242.00. The library is located in its own facility which opened in December 2003. The library houses a collection of approximately 34,000 materials. Trustees allocated $43,500 for materials allowing the addition of 6500 items in 2006. Trustees increased the materials allocation to $45,500 for 2007. The library provides public access to the internet at 27 computers, 9 of these dedicated to children and teens and 4 restricted to employment assistance. Full wireless access is provided in both buildings and extends onto the grounds. The library added two MLS librarians to the staff in 2006 to expand programming and information resources. The WBCL is open 7 days per week providing 52 hours of patron access. The Board of Trustees hopes to expand hours in 2007. The library utilizes volunteers to supplement staff and a variety of donations and automation to continue running a "lean operation."
