The State Bar of Wisconsin's Law Office

http://www.wislawyer.org

The State Bar produces a variety of publications to share information with members. The monthly Wisconsin Lawyer magazine, the Bar's flagship publication, is consistently rated in membership surveys as one of the top three resources that the Bar offers, with 70 percent of the Bar's members reading one-half or more of a typical issue. The Communications Committee, which serves as the publication's editorial board, and staff redesigned the Wisconsin Lawyer, incorporating feedback from a readership survey conducted the prior year. The new look includes an expanded "Personal Mentions" column, now called "In the News," more frequent coverage of ethics and small-firm practice issues, and a greater commitment to involving readers in the publication. The monthly State Bar Newsletter, received between issues of the Wisconsin Lawyer magazine, updates members on association activities, including the Board of Governors, new programs, products, services, and current legislative news. Capitol Update, a timely bulletin on the week's legislative activities in the State Capitol, is an important component of the State Bar's legislative grass-roots program. The Government Relations Team produces Capitol Update weekly, including insight on budget negotiations, legislative hearings, debates, votes, and ways to get involved in the process. The State Bar also launched News Notes, a free, biweekly summary of legal issues that have been reported in the press statewide and around the nation. News Notes is delivered by fax or email to subscribers and is available on WisBar.

Corash & Hollender P.C

http://www.silawfirm.com

At Corash & Hollender, P.C. our attorneys have been helping businesses and individuals on Staten Island since 1977. We can develop a plan that allows for a smooth transition, whether you want to leave the family business to your heirs, or allow your employees to acquire the company. We advise on tax implications of the proposals and make sure that contingency plans are in place that will account for the death or disability of one of the parties. To learn how we can help with business succession plans, contact our Staten Island law firm. The primary mechanism used to ensure the continuation of a business is a buy-sell agreement. Like a last will or trust, the buy-sell agreement controls what happens in the event of a specified occurrence, such as the death, disability, or retirement of a partner, owner, or other principal. A buy-sell agreement can and should be very specific, describing the circumstances under which the agreement becomes active. In addition to using a buy-sell agreement, our attorneys make sure that all business and life insurance policies name the desired beneficiaries. A family limited partnership or limited liability company is a vehicle that allows a business owner to transfer shares of the business to family members or other beneficiaries during his or her lifetime. This approach minimizes tax liability and allows the heirs to begin participating in the business before the death or retirement of the owner.

Wyoming Legal Services , Inc.

http://www.wyominglegalservices.org

Wyoming Legal Services Inc. (WLS) is a federally funded, non-profit law firm. We provide legal assistance to low income individuals living in Wyoming. WLS maintains three offices across Wyoming. The administrative office is located in Lander. Satellite offices are located in Casper and Cheyenne. Each office is staffed by attorneys and support staff, trained to assist you with your legal questions and problems. WLS provides representation in many, though not all, types of civil cases. We cannot represent defendants in criminal cases unless the defendant is a Native American and needs representation in Tribal Court. If you have been charged with a crime, you should request that the court appoint an attorney to represent you if you cannot afford one. Eligibility: Applicants must first financially qualify to be eligible for services. Each applicant must fill out an application disclosing gross monthly income, number of persons in the family, other assets, and a brief statement of the legal problem. Priorities: Unfortunately, WLS is not able to assist everyone who financially qualifies. The Board of Directors determines the types of cases that WLS accepts. Generally, our program may be able to provide legal assistance with: Shelter: Evictions and other lanlord-tenant issues, utility shut-offs, public housing, unhealthy or dangerous housing conditions Income: Social Security, Supplmental Security Income (SSI), Medicare, Medicaid, and public benefits Consumer Debt: Repossession of property, bad debt, garnishment, and bankruptcy Migrant: In addition to the general priorities: wage claims, housing, health and safety issues, community education Family: We assist with completion of pro se (do-it-yourself) legal packets in the areas of divorce, custody modification, and child support modification. These packets are available from any Wyoming District Court for $10.00.
