Founded in 1866, today the company operates three major business units: Deseret Book Publishing -- including books, music, DVD and audio products produced under two separate imprints/labels, Deseret Book and Shadow Mountain; Deseret Book Retail -- the operation of 41 full-line bookstores in the western half of the U.S., including Mormon Handicraft; and Deseret Book Wholesale -- a distributor of both religious and non-religious books, music and other entertainment products to retail outlets nationwide, including over 200 independent religious bookstores nationwide catering to members of the LDS Church. In 2003, Deseret Book entered into a distribution partnership with the new music label of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
