Hoffman Hart & Wagner was established in 1992 by several of Oregon's most experienced trial attorneys whose goal was to provide cost-effective courtroom defense to insurance companies, private corporations, municipalities and professionals in federal and state courts across the state.
The firm has grown to nearly fifty attorneys with three locations, two in Oregon and one in Washington. Since the firm was established, its focus has been on providing its clients with advice and defense based on significant trial experience. Mr. Hoffman has extensive experience in Washington and Oregon, has been practicing for over thirty years, and has tried over 200 cases to verdict. He specializes in complex litigation as well as medical malpractice defense in both Washington and Oregon.
Mr. Hart specializes in medical malpractice defense with a focus in birth injury cases. He has tried over 350 civil cases to verdict during his thirty years of practice. Mr. Hart is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Wagner's practice is focused on defense of significant injury cases including products liability actions, general negligence claims, and professional malpractice claims. He also has extensive trial experience defending employers, including the defense of both federal and state class actions claims. Mr. Wagner has also tried over 350 civil cases to verdict during his thirty years of practice.
James Martin, the firm's managing partner, has tried over 100 cases to verdict and has extensive experience in both medical malpractice and employment law matters. Janet Schroer, also a founding member, came to the firm with significant trial experience and now is the head of the firm's appellate department. Ms. Schroer has argued over 100 appeals in Oregon appellate courts and various federal courts, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
The majority of the twenty partners in the firm have extensive trial experience. No other group of defense attorneys in the state tries as many civil cases on a yearly basis. We have nearly fifty full-time attorneys.
