HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc. (HCC) provides specialized property and casualty, surety, and group life, accident and health insurance coverages and related agency and reinsurance brokerage services to commercial customers and individuals. The Company operates primarily in the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Bermuda, Belgium and Ireland. HCC underwrites on both a direct basis, where it insures a risk in exchange for a premium, and on a reinsurance basis, where the Company insures all or a portion of another, or ceding, insurance company’s risk in exchange for all or a portion of the ceding insurance company’s premium for the risk. Its insurance companies are risk-bearing and focus their underwriting activities on providing insurance and/or reinsurance in the lines of business, including diversified financial products; group life, accident and health; aviation; London market account, and other specialty lines. On January 2, 2008, HCC acquired MultiNational Underwriters, LLC.
