Parkside School

http://www.parksideschool.net

Parkside offers the high quality education that students deserve and that parents, quite rightly, demand for their children. It is our main aim that all students will achieve their potential in a positive and harmonious working environment. The school creates an atmosphere of calm endeavour within which teaching and learning are valued as the key activities. Students are set clear targets for their own personal achievement and these are developed and fostered by a team of professional and caring teachers and support staff. The School's results at the end of Key Stage 3 have been excellent and place Parkside not only as a top performing school for students in Bradford but also nationally. We are now building on this firm foundation for both Key Stage 4 and Post 16. In September 2003 the school underwent its first Ofsted inspection and the report was good. In the summary the lead inspector commented: Parkside is a good school which has many very good and some outstanding features. This is an ambitious school with high aspirations that has made a very good start to its life and has a very considerable capacity for further improvement. It provides its students with a good quality education in a safe and caring environment, where their achievement, progress and personal development are at the heart of the school. The school has been in the vanguard of secondary education developments in Bradford. In September 2004 the school was designated a specialist school in the Performing Arts. This has further enhanced the facilities for both the students and the local community. A totally refurbished theatre with state of the art technical facilities was opened in 2005. Our new £8m building extension opened in September 2006. This contains many facilities including new Performance Arts areas for Music and Dance, new Art facilities, a new Learning Resources Centre as well as classrooms for the Humanities and English faculties. This is the final phase of our new school and is an excellent example of the Building Schools for the Future initiative. The school offers high quality, brand new facilities in all subject areas and excellent student facilities for study and recreation. The school prepares students for life in a 21st century environment and the delivery of the school curriculum employs the use of the most up to date information technology. . Today, the education of young people is about a successful partnership. The students, school staff and parents form this partnership and together we can make the difference for your child's future. Together we can achieve ,Excellence for all'.

Colbayns High School

http://www.colbayns.org.uk

Colbayns High School has a clear vision and sense of purpose that is summed up in our strapline "Working Together For Success". Firstly, there is the emphasis on doing your best and making a good commitment to your education and all that the school has to offer inside and outside of the classroom that is summed up in the word "Working". We actively promote the work ethic: we know that children will only get the best from school if they come ready to give their all. We also know that they can gain a great deal from all of the extra-curricular activities of the school through clubs, trips, expeditions, camps, productions and sport. As well as wanting young people to do well academically, we are committed to helping them become successful young adults ready to make a good contribution to society. Staff at Colbayns work very hard: they, too, are committed to the highest standards in the classroom and give readily of their time to allow extra-curricular activity to take place. "Working Together" points at the truth that for a young person to do well at school there needs to be a partnership - a compact if you like - between school, pupil and parent. Without the help and support of the family, especially the encouragement and disciplined environment that comes from the home, young people will be less likely to do as well as they might. Colbayns High School seeks to positively involve parents in working with the school in supporting young people to success. "Together" points at the community aspects of the life of the school and its involvement in and support of the local community. As a school we actively promote tolerance, understanding and the readiness to serve others. For example, our charity work raises around £5,000 per year. Many of our pupils undertake voluntary community service or work in school to help other pupils.

Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School

http://www.mothermcauley.org

MOTHER McAULEY LIBERAL ARTS HIGH SCHOOL is a Catholic educational community committed to providing a quality secondary education for young women. In the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy and their foundress, Catherine McAuley, we prepare students to live in a complex, dynamic society by teaching them to think critically, communicate effectively, respond compassionately to the needs of their community and assume roles of Christian leadership. In partnership with parents, we empower young women to acknowledge their giftedness and to make decisions with a well-developed moral conscience. We foster an appreciation of the diversity of the global community and a quest for knowledge and excellence as life long goals. The liberal arts curriculum encourages the student to develop an ability to think critically and communicate effectively. Exposure to the fine arts within this liberal arts curriculum fosters a greater appreciation of creativity and beauty in our complex, technological society. Mother McAuley seeks to challenge the student on every level. Participation in a variety of educational experiences prepares her to continue her education successfully on post-secondary levels. By setting high standards for each student, Mother McAuley hopes to instill a quest for knowledge and excellence as a life-long process. In the words of Catherine McAuley, Mother McAuley High School firmly believes in the "careful instruction of women". In this mission, it teaches the value of education and creative thought in a constantly changing world, it promotes the dynamic role of women in the family, Church and society, and it challenges each young woman to develop fully her God-given talents. Mother McAuley is a Catholic Liberal Arts High School for young women. Following in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy and their foundress, Catherine McAuley, the school, in partnership with parents, educates young women for the future. Mother McAuley High School is a Catholic Christian community rooted in the Gospel values of Jesus Christ. The school's commitment to teach these values empowers young women to make choices with a well-developed moral conscience, to live in mutual relationship with all creation, to promote justice and to serve others. Mother McAuley promotes active membership in the community and an awareness of a responsibility to assume a leadership role in the Church and society. The educational program enables students to relate effectively to their present community and to appreciate global diversity.

Greene Street Friends School

http://www.greenestreetfriends.org

Greene Street Friends School is an urban coeducational School under the care of Green Street Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. We strive to provide high academic standards in a school community where all relationships are influenced and guided by the beliefs of the Society of Friends. It is our hope that through their own experiences the children will discover and affirm themselves and others as they come to know and value differences in ability, language, skin color, sexual orientation, religion, family structure, or family income. This deep respect for each individual springs from Friends' belief in "that of God" in everyone. Emphasis on simplicity, honesty in word and deed, a sense of responsibility for others, development of self-discipline and the reliance on non-violent conflict resolution underlie our life together. Small classes and close student-teacher relationships make it possible for us to acknowledge the uniqueness of each child and to encourage the development of his or her talents and abilities. The goal of our school community is to help our students develop as fully as possible - academically, spiritually, physically and socially.

Brisbane Girls Grammar School

http://www.bggs.qld.edu.au

Brisbane Girls Grammar School has joined forces with Queensland University of Technology to establish an innovative teacher education centre within the School. In a unique departure from the way student teachers are currently prepared for their profession, the new Centre for Professional Practice will include a fully-equipped area within the School at Spring Hill where pre-service teachers can work with staff from both institutions. "Brisbane Girls Grammar has always been an institution of choice for pre-service teachers and the School has always been actively involved in providing optimum teacher training opportunities," Principal, Ms Amanda Bell said. "We are mindful of the concerns of the Federal Minister for Education Dr Brendan Nelson recently highlighted in media in relation to perceived standards of teacher training." QUT's Dean of Education, Professor Vi McLean said the initiative would provide new and exciting opportunities to ensure QUT graduates were very well prepared to face the challenges of the future. "As a faculty committed to learning innovation, we are delighted to see this initiative in teacher education emerge through our partnership with Brisbane Girls Grammar School," Professor McLean said. Brisbane Girls Grammar and QUT have been working together for the past two years to establish the new Centre. In addition to providing learning opportunities for pre-service teachers, the Centre also will offer a structured opportunity for the ongoing professional development for the School's staff. In this leaning community, School staff will be encouraged to regard the mentoring of student teachers as a significant avenue for their own, ongoing professional development as educators. Ms Bell and Professor McLean will officially sign a formal agreement of association to launch the first stage of the collaborative project at 2:00pm on Thursday March 10 at Brisbane Girls Grammar School, Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill.

The Sharon Academy

http://www.thesharonacademy.org

The Sharon Academy prides itself on being an innovative, academically challenging school that offers the best of both private and public school education. We are an apprived independent school, which means that although we are a private school, our tuition fees are paid by those Vermont towns that normally tuition students to area public schools. We offer a stimulating, academically challenging program in a small school environment. The Academy opened as a Middle School with 12 students in one classroom in 1996. The goal was to create a school with high academic standards where students would feel safe - a place where students came first, where they were able to be themselves, be accepted socially, and challenged academically. TSA graduated its first class of four seniors in 2002. It grew to capacity by 2004/2005, and continues with approximately 30 students per grade in the high school.
