Falmer High School

http://www.falmerhighschool.org.uk

Falmer provides a friendly and secure atmosphere where all students can learn effectively. OfSTED endorsed this in 2001 reporting that we are an effective and improving school with a very positive ethos. Our students take great pride in their school, respect their teachers and work hard to attain good examination results. It is not surprising that more and more parents are choosing Falmer as their first choice school and you can be assured that your child will have every opportunity to succeed during their time with us. The school's recent improvement is based on high expectations in terms of discipline, learning and achievement. We expect all students to work hard and achieve to the best of their ability. My experienced staff will do all that they can to provide the support necessary for all students of all levels of ability to succeed. It is our aim to raise the aspirations of all students so that they will continue their studies beyond the age of sixteen. In particular, we have established University Potential tutor groups in most years to prepare our most able students to achieve the highest possible grades both at Falmer and beyond, hoping that many will eventually succeed at degree level. As a new Headteacher I want to build on the progress of recent years and make a good school even better. Central to this is developing a strong partnership between you as parents, your child and the school. It is hoped that all parents will become active partners in their child's education whilst at Falmer High School. To this end I want to encourage you to contact the school if you have any issues or concerns and I will be more than willing to discuss these with you. I am looking forward to working with you and hope that your child's time with us is enjoyable, happy and successful.

Vail Christian High School

http://www.vchs.org

VCHS offers a focused college preparatory curriculum for the students attending our school. It is our goal to make every student academically successful so they will be prepared for college and, more importantly, adulthood. Because each student has different academic gifts, we want to ensure that when a student is accepted at VCHS, he/she is placed in the appropriate English, math and science classes. To assist us in determining that information, we require all incoming freshmen to take a placement test. The scheduled testing dates are January 20, January 27 and February 10, 2007. Please see or call Ms. Larson at (970)766-4127 to make a reservation for one of these dates. With the assistance of the Scholastic Testing Service, Inc., VCHS offers the High School Placement Test (HSPT), a comprehensive exam administered to eighth-grade students for placement in ninth grade. It provides us a maximum amount of information in only one morning's testing time. The HSPT provides national normative measures in the following cognitive and basic skills areas: verbal and quantitative skills, reading, language, mathematics, and science. Each student's exam will be sent to STS for scoring and the results of the exams will show each student's Cognitive Skills Quotient, standard scores, national and local percentiles, as well as grade equivalents for basic skills subtests-reading, mathematics, and language. The tests take approximately 10 days to score; we will call you when they are returned to us and will ask you to set up an interview at that time to review your test and your other application materials. While the results of the tests are important to us, please remember that the placement test is just one of the criteria we consider for admission; high test scores do not guarantee admission, nor do mediocre scores mean your student will not be accepted. During your interview, we will provide you with a performance profile of your student's placement test. These profiles report his or her scores, identify corresponding national and local norms, and give information about performance on skills within each subtest. We will be happy to review these in depth with you. On the Saturday of each test, the testing will begin at 8:30 a.m. and should conclude at approximately 12 noon. The fee for the testing session is $25 (checks payable to VCHS). Please plan on arriving at VCHS no later than 8:15 a.m. so we can make sure everyone has arrived before we begin. Students are encouraged to get a good night's rest prior to the test and to eat a well balanced breakfast before arriving at Vail Christian. As there will be breaks between sections, students are asked to bring energy snacks and water for use at that time. Calculators are not allowed, and we will provide pencils. If, for any reason, you find your student cannot attend, please call so we do not delay the start of the test. If you have any additional questions please call Mindy Larson at 970.926.3015.
