NORDIC TRAUMA FORUM

http://www.nordictrauma.org

The initiative to the Nordic Trauma Forum was taken by a group of participants at the Trauma Care 2002 Congress in Stavanger. A number of medical specialities including surgeons, anaesthesiologists, neurosurgeons and orthopedics were represented; as well as nurses and physicians; hospital and prehospital staff and all the Scandinavian countries. We found it important to continue cooperation in the team approach to the trauma patient in a Nordic model: the Nordic Trauma Forum (NTF). The purpose of the NTF is to improve the trauma care including all aspects from prevention, the prehospital phase, the patient arriving at the emergency room, through diagnostics, surgical and intensive care treatment until the phase of rehabilitation. NTF is an open to everyone with interest in and willingness to work with improvement of trauma care. We find it valuable to establish a Nordic forum to exchange ideas and to cooperate in all aspects of trauma. Topics discussed for NTF was a nordic trauma database and guidelines for managements of the trauma patient applicable in the nordic healthcare system. Furthermore trauma care does not only concern injured patient but also family and relatives. Is important to keep focus on trauma as severe injury still is the number one cause of death among children and younger adults and a major cause of disability. We plan to meet in the spring 2003. It is open to all interested. Announcement will be given in Akuttjournalen. At this meeting we intend to form working groups considering those topics that the participants find most interesting and important. Further more we plan to join and to have a session at the British Traumas Society meeting in October 2003. For those interested in Nordic Trauma Forum, please, contact us. We welcome suggestions for topics to our meeting spring 2003.

CareFlight

http://www.careflight.org

CareFlight provides aero-medical retrieval services without cost to the patient. However, the service costs over $9 million annually to staff, equip and operate. While we receive some funding from NSW Health and the Ambulance Service of NSW, we rely on strong community and corporate support to subsidise our services. Last year we received $4.8 million from our community supporters. Our fundraising objectives are: to create, nurture and manage income streams which fund a world class emergency medical retrieval service accessible by all members of the community; to provide a broad charitable outreach, inviting you to take ownership of CareFlight through donor support. Ways in which you can help: buy a CareFlight Bear; make a donation to CareFlight now; make an automatic, monthly, tax-free donation to CareFlight through workplace giving; join our Supporters Club by making regular monthly or quarterly donations to CareFlight; organise or participate in a CareFlight event; join a CareFlight Venture and have fun travelling across NSW in your vehicle and meeting others; encourage your registered club to support CareFlight through their annual CDSE program; remember CareFlight in your will; volunteer part of your time to help CareFlight. Your money is used to: train experienced doctors to deliver critical care to patients in a pre-hospital and transport environment; maintain aero-medical teams on rostered duty every day of the year; lease/purchase and maintain two helicopters to transport patients; promote teaching and pre-hospital medical research; treat and/or transport critically ill and injured patients. &copy 2007 NRMA CareFlight Printed from http://careflight.org/help/

The Specialty Hospital of Washington

http://www.specialtyhospitalofwashington.com

SHW specializes in caring for patients with highly acute medically complex conditions, such as cardiopulmonary illnesses, severe wounds, kidney disease or acute diabetes. Many times patients have a need for a longer hospital stay due to a recent illness, injury, trauma or unexpected medical complications. Medicare and Medicaid length of stay regulations do not allow these patients to stay in a community hospital for long periods of time. However, many times these patients are too ill to move into rehabilitation, skilled nursing facility, or subacute residential settings.
