The Specialty Hospital of Washington

http://www.specialtyhospitalofwashington.com

SHW specializes in caring for patients with highly acute medically complex conditions, such as cardiopulmonary illnesses, severe wounds, kidney disease or acute diabetes. Many times patients have a need for a longer hospital stay due to a recent illness, injury, trauma or unexpected medical complications. Medicare and Medicaid length of stay regulations do not allow these patients to stay in a community hospital for long periods of time. However, many times these patients are too ill to move into rehabilitation, skilled nursing facility, or subacute residential settings.

Ascension Health Ventures LLC

http://www.ascensionhealthventures.org

AHV was established in 2001 by Ascension Health with a commitment of $125 million to invest in expansion- to late-stage healthcare companies. Ascension Health is the nation's largest Catholic and largest nonprofit health system serving patients through a network of hospitals and health facilities in 20 states and the District of Columbia. AHV offers its limited partners the ability to earn venture-level financial returns while providing early insight to future healthcare developments. In 2007, AHV closed a second fund, CHV II, L.P. with $200 million in commitments from Ascension Health, Catholic Health Initiatives and Catholic Health East. AHV will serve as the general partner of CHV II, L.P. and provide management services. CHV II will continue the investment strategy that AHV employed in its first fund, targeting expansion to later stage medical device, healthcare technology and healthcare service companies in areas of interest to the limited partners. A portion of the fund will also be committed to other healthcare venture funds. As a strategic investor, AHV adds value to its portfolio companies by sharing solutions across its network of nearly 200 acute care hospitals within its limited partners. AHV actively pursues investment opportunities in areas of interest to its limited partners' hospitals to build the synergies between the investment strategy and the hospitals' needs. Hospitals are not required to adopt portfolio company solutions. AHV makes the connection, but the facilities are empowered to make their own decisions.

Grand River Hospital

http://www.grandriverhospital.on.ca

Grand River Hospital's childbirth program is committed to providing a family-centred approach to care, which is flexible and considers the individual needs of women and their families. Emphasis is placed on fostering the family unit while maintaining a safe environment of quality health care. It is important to nurture families while respecting their diversities. Expectant parents will actively participate to make informed choices about their care within the limits of safety. Childbirth is an experience of wellness and constitutes a time of physical, emotional and social change. It provides an opportunity to grow and develop; it is not an illness. We recognize that stressful situations can occur during pregnancy and the birth of a new baby. At-risk births are potentially traumatic for the family involved. We will provide the support needed on an individual basis as we seek to minimize the potential trauma through a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach. Our family-centered philosophy of care promotes physical and emotional support, teaching and assessment opportunities, and an atmosphere for growth.
