Southers' vast public relations experience encompasses telecommunications, real estate, hospitality, technology, and city government. Most recently, Southers was a regional public relations director for Luxury Resorts, overseeing PR activities for Naples Grande Resort & Club, Edgewater Beach Hotel & Club and Naples Grande Golf Club. Southers attended The University of Texas, Austin and received a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from The University of Texas, Arlington. She attained the national accreditation in public relations (APR) designation in 2003. Southers is a member and past president of the Public Relations Society of America/Gulf Coast Chapter, mentor with the Education Foundation of Collier County's Take Stock in Children program, and a volunteer for the Shelter for Abused Women and Children.
