Sharon Volunteer Fire Department

The Sharon Volunteer Fire Department is the youngest fire company in Alleghany County. In 1998, in cooperation with the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad the department established the First Responder program. This group of dedicated EMTs respond to First Aid calls in the Sharon fire coverage area. This allows Sharon firefighters to provide initial first aid to those in need and assist the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad in patient care. The SharonVolunteer Fire Department is a non-transport organization. The fire department coverage area includes all areas of Alleghany County east of Clifton Forge, into Bath, Rockbridge, and Botetourt Counties. As fund raisers the department holds an annual auction and fund drive. Community support programs include an extensive fire prevention program, adopt-a-highway program, and assistance to members of the community during natural disasters.
