New Concepts Publishing

http://www.newconceptspublishing.com

We do NOT publish non-fiction, pornography, literary works, or gay/lesbian fiction. We DO publish popular romance in most every sub-genre. We rarely publish short story collections, but occasionally will accept stories with a common theme and wide reader appeal. Markets: New Concepts Publishing was the first, continuously operating romance electronic publisher in the world. Regardless, ebooks are still the new kid on the block and authors submitting should be aware that, although we offer the best royalty percentages possible, royalties at this time are not comparable to royalties paid by the megacorporation print publishers, who have been establishing their markets for 50 years or more. We are still building our markets, but are probably best established in the Romance Market (single title), which is where we began. Regardless, we're interested in building across the board, and are acquiring most genres. Since we are building markets, we require a minimum commitment of 2 years for exclusive electronic rights. Also, we do print publication, but books will be offered exclusively as ebooks for six months to the first year, so you should not look to see the book in print until after the book is released as an ebook. Word count requirements/limitations - minimum word count for single publication is 60,000 for most genres. Currently, we are accepting some erotic romance novellas 20,000 to 39,000 words, but only those novellas with a SPICY or CARNAL sensuality rating. Maximum for any genre should be no more than 120,000. None of these word counts are set in stone. However, a story should be no longer than it needs to be. Please do NOT decide to make major changes on the book after you have submitted and/or contracted with NCP. When we contract on the submission, we expect to publish the book we have contracted on. The best way to determine whether your book is right for us is to thoroughly research our company by buying NCP books. However, the list below should help also. What we look for: 1)A unique writing voice 2)Popular themes with new twists 3)Innovative story ideas 4)Mastery of writing skills 5)Tight pacing 6)Strong conflict (this can include both internal and external so long as the internal conflict is strong) 7)Strong motivations 8)Good, believable dialogue 9)A good balance between description and dialogue 10)Historical accuracy(accurate research) 11)Books that leap immediately into 'the problem' 12)Books that have an element of romance (love makes the world go 'round and is one of the most powerful (attractive) motivations a character can have. This is not a MUST and, in fact, the motivation of love could apply to love of family, or self etc. in genres other than romance. Self preservation is a perfectly acceptable motive. However revenge is far less appealing in a hero/heroine and greed belongs under villain motivations. What we don't like to see: 1)Books that use the first two or three chapters to give us an in-depth background history of the characters.

Huge Print Press

http://www.hugeprint.com

Huge Print Press is a new group deeply committed to working with low vision students and the community that aids them. To that end, we would like to introduce our services of providing custom large print books and E-Text on demand. Huge Print Press was formed to help address a major problem facing our education system. For too long, partially sighted students have had to deal with limited access to large print books. Instead of being afforded the opportunity to read a book like their sighted peers, students have had to settle for inferior alternatives. Until now, teachers and students have had to depend on CCTVs that leave students nauseous and sick or "books" that are nothing more than blurred photocopies on 11"x17" paper. These "accommodations" are impractical and ineffective and offer the student little more than inconvenience, embarrassment, and physical discomfort. And while there are existing "large print" providers, these groups employ outdated methods, yielding books that are little more than blown-up, distorted images of the original. These books are often bound in an awkward, calendar-style format and are severely limited in the point size available. As you know, a "one size fits all" solution is not viable for the low vision community. Some students need books in 16 point, while others need books in 22 or 33 or 48 point. Beyond that, some students may require double spacing, while others may require different color schemes. Existing methodologies are not meeting these needs. Combined with a turnaround time of 3-4 months, these deficiencies put the student impossibly far behind his or her peers. The impact of these shortcomings is long lasting as many students give up on reading, forfeiting their hopes and dreams. There is no better evidence of this than the staggering drop out rates among low vision students at the college level. Enter Huge Print Press. Using the latest in technology, Huge Print Press is able to digitally recreate books in their entirety, going beyond mere photo-enlargements.
