MicroSpine Inc

http://www.microspine.com

MicroSpine is dedicated to the research and treatment of spinal disorders by utilizing MicroSpine surgery (Also referred to as Minimally Invasive or Laser Endoscopic Spine Surgery). We can resolve most spinal disorders through a hole the size of your small finger (1/4 to 1/2 of an inch)4. Our staff employs Cutting Edge Technology to resolve the most troublesome spinal problems. If most surgeons tell you that they can't help you, then we probably can. Since our surgeries are minimally invasive, the amount of recovery time is less, the amount of scarring is less, and the post operative pain is less. In fact, 99.9% of our patients will be up and walking the same day as the surgery. Some call it a miracle, but it simply is the advancement of spinal surgery to the next degree. Just as with shoulder and knee surgeries that once required large incisions and long recovery times, these surgeries are now done on an outpatient basis. So it only employs common sense to utilize these less invasive endoscopic surgical techniques to the spine. Many surgeons claim they can perform similar procedures, but they do not. These surgeons will tell you they could perform such a surgery but it wouldn't help you and thus they'll offer you a fusion. In reality, only a small handful of surgeons in the world perform these MicroSpine procedures1 and our physicians have personally performed thousands of them3. Our location is not in a big city but it allows our staff to focus on spinal surgery and research and not to be burdened by medical and hospital politics. We are the only facility in the World dedicated to every aspect of minimally invasive spinal surgery. Yes, we are busy and you may have a short wait for surgery but good surgeons are busy. Be cautious of the surgeon who can get you in right way since there is probably a reason for their lack of patients. We design and manufacture our own tools and develop our own techniques, and we constantly monitor the literature to keep up to date on every aspect of evolving spine care. If it is cutting edge, then we probably do it. We have a complete staff of researchers and we have been regularly publicizing our data on our revolutionary techniques 2. So before you have any spinal surgery make sure you get all the facts about your options. Our staff will gladly review your MRI information and give you a free preliminary idea of what we believe we can offer you.

Axial Biotech , Inc.

http://www.axialbiotech.com

Axial Biotech, Inc. is focused on the use of genetics and the development of minimally invasive, motion preserving implants to advance the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and deformities of the human spine. Axial is the first company to pursue DNA-based pre-symptomatic and prognostic tests for common spinal conditions which will augment current clinical and surgical practices. In its initial product development initiative, Axial has made significant progress towards the discovery of a location in the human genome that is associated with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. In addition, Axial's founders have developed five fusionless surgical devices (including the only such device currently being implanted in humans) that have the promise of expanding the current treatable scoliosis patient population by a factor of ten. Axial intends to use its proprietary genetic intellectual property in the development of bio-mechanical devices, and to apply its gene discovery/product development methodology to other spinal diseases. Spine care has historically focused on ameliorating the pain and/or fixing structural damage after it occurs. Recent technological advances in minimally invasive surgical techniques and better instrumentation have made the spine industry the hottest segment of the medical device market today, according to Start-Up magazine. Market analysis indicates a $3 billion sales potential for new instrumentation alone within 4 years, with this market compounding at greater than 20% per year. In the last 24 months, over $250 million of reported venture capital financing has flowed into spine start-ups and investors have achieved exits totaling over $1 billion, including one IPO (NuVasive). Axial's novel tests will complement the advances in surgical instrumentation by providing the spine care industry with the first to market diagnostic and prognostic tests for targeting earlier and more appropriate therapeutic interventions. Axial's surgical devices, one of which is currently in off-label use in humans, represent the only available alternative to spine fusion in the treatment of scoliosis. Axial is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, a place the New York Times recently called "an ideal genetic laboratory."

Biorthex Inc.

http://www.biorthex.com

Biorthex Inc. is a biotechnology company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets innovative and proprietary surgical products for the treatment of spinal disorders. The Company is dedicated to providing the surgical community with safe, technologically proven and innovative spinal implants for use in the treatment of spinal disorders, diseases and injuries. Our mission at Biorthex is to develop and market breakthrough products, which will enhance the practice of orthopaedic surgeons and associated healthcare professionals and thus, the quality of life of their patients. In 1997, Biorthex commenced development of a porous nickel-titanium alloy, Actipore, to address the challenge of host bone to implant fixation. Several years of research and development resulted in the production of a unique ultra porous, biologically and biomechanically compatible nitinol material. The material's isotropic porous structure, with inherent capillary wicking pores, draws essential fluids and nutrients into the material thus facilitating bone cell penetration and survival and allowing strong, rapid growth of newly forming bone cells through its scaffold (three dimensional networks of pores). With similar mechanical properties to bone resulting in load sharing, as well as MRI and CT scan compatibility, the abovementioned qualities lent themselves ideally to the production of spinal interbody devices. As a consequence, the Actipore interbody device project was born. The use of Biorthex's innovative interbody fusion material, Actipore, enables a less invasive surgical procedure which may shorten hospital stay and/or accelerate patient recovery and as a consequence, may allow a reduction of overall cost of treatment compared to traditional methods. Studies conducted so far indicate a fusion rate which is at least as good as competitors' devices. Biorthex offers three products derived from its Actipore technology, two of them are advanced interbody fusion device indicated for lumbar fusion : the Actipore PLFx system and the Actipore PLF system, the third Actipore ACF system is indicated for cervical fusion. Biorthex is currently developing a fourth interbody fusion device, called Actipore ALF for lumbar fusion via anterior approach.
