Instrument Specialists Inc

http://www.isisurgery.com

Instrument Specialists Inc. (ISI), founded in 1978 by Sandra and Joseph R. Kabanek, Ph.D., began by repairing and sharpening hand-held surgical instruments. A line of cleaning products was quickly developed after discovering that many of the instruments sent for repair were not broken, but simply dirty. Two of the cleaning products are rust & stain removers, uniquely addressing a problem which often resulted in instruments malfunctioning. A few years later, Dr. Kabanek observed a hand surgery and began building a surgical table for extremity surgeries. In 1986, he was issued a patent for the "K" Surgical Table. Over the years, the table has gone through some design changes and is now known as the Advanced Universal "K" Table. Selling to the hand market has lead to the development of other O.R. products such as the Alumi-Hand, the ISI Ultra-Light Specialty Table, the Digi Grip, and finger traps. ISI's fastest area of growth is providing repair services of flexible and rigid scopes. The use of scopes has become more widespread, so the need for this type of service is expanding at a rapid pace. Repairs of scopes range from minor to extensive, saving hospitals the cost of replacing very expensive equipment. ISI also "loans" scopes to hospitals while having theirs serviced and is now offering refurbished endoscopes and equipment. Instrument Specialists Inc. is a privately held, family owned and operated corporation and holds several certifications such as the WBE and HUB. Sandra Kabanek is the President of the company, and the late Dr. Kabanek acted as Executive Vice President until his passing in 1998. Three of their children, Lisa Hernandez, James Kabanek and Lori Brown, are also actively involved in the business. Instrument Specialists Inc. is headquartered in Boerne, Texas, close to San Antonio, one of the fastest growing medical communities in the U.S. ISI Medical & O.R. Products provides specialty surgical tables, surgical accessories for hand and upper extremities and a complete line of instrument cleaning brushes and care solutions. ISI Medical & O.R. Products is a division of Instrument Specialists, Inc.

Snowden Pencer

http://www.snowdenpencer.com

Snowden Pencer was founded by Leonard Snowden and George Pencer, both specially trained instrument craftsmen who pioneered important technology in the manufacturing of surgical instruments. This technology used tungsten carbide in the working end of an instrument to increase performance and longevity. In 1951, the two craftsmen collaborated to design the world's first needle holder using tungsten carbide in the jaw. This provided the instrument with a very secure grip that was unsurpassed in durability and longevity. When introduced at the next American College of Surgeons meeting, the "Diamond-Jaw®" needle holder was an instant success. Shortly thereafter, Snowden Pencer incorporated and began introducing other types of instruments using this exciting new material. The world's first tungsten carbide scissor (Diamond-Edges®), forceps (Diamond-Points®), bone rasps (Diamond-Tip®) and serrated scissors (Diamond-SerEdges®) were all developed by Snowden Pencer. The surgical community was introduced to tungsten carbide instruments by Snowden Pencer. For many years we were the only manufacturer of these instruments and supplied them world-wide under our various trademarks (Diamond-Jaw®, Diamond-Edges®, etc.). Over the years our products have been copied by other manufacturers, but our quality, performance and longevity have never been equaled. Snowden Pencer Diamond-Line® instruments are still the standard by which all others are measured.
