Vermont American, Toccoa Division is a manufacturer of steel saw blades which are stamped or cut our of coiled steel. The blades are then heat-treated, ground to thickness specifications, sharpened, cleaned, painted, and then packed. Vermont American promotes pollution prevention efforts and encourages its employees to come forward with new ideas or methods to prevent pollution, throughout the manufacturing process. Vermont American has reduced its hazardous waste generation by 90% since 1989 and has reduced wastewater discharges by more than 20% in the same period. These reductions were due in large part to the replacement of their chrome plating processes with an electrostatic paint line. Vermont American also has plans to install water recycling equipment, reducing wastewater discharge by another 10%. P2AD's Pollution Prevention Partners (P3) program is open to all Georgia companies that are committed to a successful pollution prevention program and are deemed to be in environmental compliance. The program has three levels: Entry, Achievement, and Model.
