RICHMOND, VA , TBE Group, a subsurface utility engineering (SUE), utility coordination and right-of-way services consulting and engineering firm, received the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) prestigious 2007 Excellence in Utility Relocation and Accommodation Award. The award recognizes TBE's participation on the Maryland State Highway Administration's (MSHA) Intercounty Connector project. TBE provided utility coordination services on the project. Joseph Bissett, Senior Utility Coordinator on the project, accepted the award on behalf of TBE's Richmond, Virginia, office.
The FHWA developed the biennial awards program to honor those who excel in improving utility relocation and accommodation practices. The award was presented at the 2007 American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Right of Way and Utilities Subcommittee Conference in Orlando, Florida, on April 30, 2007.
The award, presented for the category of Incentives for Utility Relocation/Projects Over $100 Million, recognized the MSHA and its consultants, including TBE, for providing innovative incentives enabling 15 utility companies to relocate approximately $40 million of complex overhead and underground utilities as part of five design-build projects for the construction of the Intercounty Connector highway. TBE was also honored with FHWA Awards of Excellence for work performed on projects in Georgia and Florida.
