  • BGMU's Electric Division serves approximately 50,000 people within the city limits of Bowling Green, with over 25,800 service connections. BGMU serves nearly 4,100 commercial institutes. BGMU's distribution system contains 327 miles of electrical lines that run throughout the city on poles and underground services. The system also contains 13 electrical substations, two of which are 161-kilovolt delivery point substations that receive electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority and four of which serve Western Kentucky University. BGMU has 95 employees in its Electric Division. Electric Division crews keep portable radios, and remain on call for services needed 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. In the event of a major emergency that involves loss of telephone or power radio communication, designated employees report to the normal work area for assigment in the emergency response activities.
