WNBC HD (high-definition), the flagship station of the NBC network, signed on the air as WNBT on July 1, 1941, and for more than 65 years has served the most influential and diverse television market.
WNBC HD's award-winning news operation produces 28 hours of news and local programming per week, and has achieved many firsts in television news including the first to transition to high-definition, introduce local weekend morning news-the top-rated "Today In New York"-the debut of Chopper 4, the launch of the Skycam Network, a newsgathering system consisting of cameras placed strategically at key points in the tri-state area and the addition of Doppler 4000, the most powerful weather radar. In 1996, WNBC introduced its Web site, www.wnbc.com making it the first affiliate to do so. Recently, WNBC HD launched its second digital offering, WNBC 4.4, a hyper-local channel that provides cultural programming, news, local sports, entertainment and educational programming, as well original content from varied local partners. WNBC's first digital channel, Weather Plus, provides weather and related local community information.
