The City of Kingston devotes greater resources to the off-campus area around Queen's than any other area of the city, including snow removal and street cleaning, because of the demand created by the higher density population. With respect to the move-out period, the problem became more acute in 2004 with the end of free large item drop off by the City. Queen's runs a recycling, reuse and large item collection service in the parking lot at the Macintosh-Corry Building. However, in addition to students, many landlords chose to bring their garbage to the Queen's site. The volume of materials became unmanageable for Queen's alone.
