FCO

The FCO produces a wide range of publications and displays for use overseas. Some are designed for a general audience, others are aimed at younger readers. The FCO also commissions and produces TV features and documentaries, which are broadcast in over 120 countries. For 15 - 24 year olds the FCO produced the Planet Britain 2000 CD-ROM and website which offered a brief and colourful introduction to the many attractions the UK has to offer young people from across the world, and the website http://www.planet-britain.org/ received over 5 million hits in its first twelve months.

Federal Law Enforcement Training Center

The FLETC serves as the Federal Government's primary training resource for law enforcement. Its enrollment includes federal, state and local agencies. Seventy-six federal agencies use the services of FLETC with nearly 50,000 trainees expected to graduate in 2003. Because of the Homeland Security initiative adopted by the United States, roughly 70% of these potential graduates will come from agencies directly involved with Homeland Security.

European Commission

The European Commission is implementing a re-evaluation of substances used as pesticides. These should be notified to the Commission and low risk substances are also included. This affects many substances used in organic farming, especially those which it is not commercially viable to register or to compile safety data. Therefore the European Commission has established a working group on organic faming with experts from the member states.

General Services Administration

The General Services Administration, or GSA, is an agency of the Federal Government. Its mission is to "help federal agencies better serve the public by offering, at best value, superior workplaces, expert solutions, acquisition services and management policies." GSA consists of the Federal Technology Service (FTS), the Federal Supply Service (FSS), the Public Buildings Service (PBS), and various Staff Offices, including the Office of Government-wide Policy (OGP). Eleven Regional Offices extend GSA's outreach to federal customers nationwide. An anticipated GSA reorganization will consolidate FTS and FSS into a single new organization, the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS). GSA has approximately 13,000 employees with offices in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Kansas City, Fort Worth, Denver, San Francisco, Auburn (Washington) and Washington, DC. Last year, GSA was involved in $66B of federal spending. This represented one-forth of the government's total procurement dollars. GSA also manages federal assets values at nearly $500B which include over 8,300 owned or leased buildings, 170,000 vehicles and technology programs and products ranging from laptop computers to systems that cost in excess of $100M.
