Human Tissue Authority

The HTA was established on 1 April 2005 under the Human Tissue Act 2004 (HT Act), which extends to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The HTA is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body (ENDPB) sponsored by the Department of Health. The Authority's Chair and 13 members were appointed by the Secretary of State for Health. The Authority is supported by an Executive of 42 staff. The HTA has two principal statutory functions. The first is to inform the public and the Secretary of State for Health about issues within our remit. We will fulfil this remit by issuing Codes of Practice including: Consent Donation of solid organs, tissue and cells for transplantation Post mortem examination Anatomical examination Removal, storage and disposal of human organs and tissue Donation of allogenic bone marrow, periperhal blood stem cells and donor lymphocytes for transplantation Public display Import and export of human bodies, body parts and tissue The second of our principal statutory remits is to license and inspect the: storage of human bodies for anatomical examination; carrying out of post mortem examinations; removal of tissue from the body of a deceased person for Scheduled Purposes except transplantation; storage and use of human bodies or parts for public display; and storage of human tissue for other scheduled purposes, for example research. The HTA is the Competent Authority under the EU Tissue and Cells Directive for regulating human application establishments . The HTA is also responsible for approving donation of solid organs and bone marrow from living donors.

Family Records Centre

During April, May and June, 95% of all applications for certificates made either at the FRC or direct to GRO Southport were produced within our published target turnaround time. For certificates ordered for collection at the FRC, the 4th working day target was met in over 99% of cases, with 92% of certificates ordered at the FRC for posting to customers on the 4th working day also despatched on time. We are delighted to be in a position where we are consistently meeting our target turnaround times (and hopefully meeting customer expectations). In this respect we genuinely welcome feedback on the level and quality of service provided at the FRC and by GRO Southport. Crown Prosecution Service

The Crown Prosecution Service is the National Authority responsible for prosecuting criminal cases investigated by the police in England and Wales. Created by the Prosecution of Offences Act 1985, CPS is an independent body that works closely with the police. The head of the Crown Prosecution Service is the Director of Public Prosecutions (the Director) Ken Macdonald QC. The Director is superintended by the Attorney General, who is responsible to Parliament for the Service. The CPS employs around 8,500 staff, including around 3,000 lawyers. Every year they deal with more than 1.3 million cases in the magistrates' court and about 115,000 in the Crown Court. The Crown Prosecution Service is the principal prosecuting authority in England and Wales. It is responsible for advising the police on cases for possible prosecution, reviewing cases submitted by the police where the decision is to prosecute, determining the charge in all but minor cases, preparing cases for court and the presentation of cases at court. The role of the CPS is to prosecute cases firmly, fairly and effectively when there is sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction and when it is in the public interest to do so.

Based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, AMTRI supplies technical consultancy services to the manufacturing sector in the UK and clients around the world. Its aim is to help clients improve productivity and efficiency and therefore save time and costs by providing technical solutions to production engineering problems across all sectors, mostly in aerospace, automotive, metals and food processing industries. Most of AMTRI's work comprises conceiving, planning, designing, developing, building, commissioning and installing cost-effective, and often highly innovative, bespoke, special purpose machinery and automation systems. The Insolvency Service is an executive agency of the Department of Trade and Industry, which deals with insolvency matters in England and Wales. Our main website at www.insolvency.gov.uk is a useful and comprehensive source of information for people wanting to know more about the insolvency regime in England and Wales and how they might be affected if they are involved in an insolvency procedure. This area of the site is aimed more widely and will contain a broad spectrum of work produced by people with different perspectives experiences and ideas about the insolvency system and debt. We would like this site to act as a useful resource for as many people as possible, and we hope to build on the pool of information it contains, both domestically and internationally. It is aimed at anyone who has an interest in insolvency and its associated areas, both from a technical and a sociological point of view. The National Archives

The National Archives, Kew, www.nationalarchives.gov.uk has one of the largest archival collections in the world, spanning 1000 years of British history, from Domesday Book to newly released government papers. The free museum and research rooms are open to the public 6 days a week. Over nine million records are available to view at Kew and some, including wills, First World War Army medal cards and Second World War Seamen's medal records are also available online at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline. The Family Records Centre, Islington, which is jointly managed by The National Archives and the Office for National Statistics, holds the indexes (not the certificates themselves) for births, deaths and marriages for England and Wales from July 1837 and also copies of wills, before 1858, from the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC) and some other church courts.
