Cedarcrest Academy is a private school for grades pre-k through eight, and offers a classical-based education centered on the truths of the Catholic faith. Since its founding in 1997, Cedarcrest has been anchored in a tradition of academic excellence and sound values. We believe such a school serves a vital need for our students and families, for the continued vitality of the Church in our area, and for the future of the Twin Cities.

Island School

http://www.ischool.org

Island School's mission is to prepare our students to live productive, fulfilling lives as confident, responsible life-long learners and contributing members of society; to express fully the talents of our faculty and administration through a challenging curriculum that prepares students for successful higher education; to provide a safe, nurturing environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, initiative, and respect for self and others. Outcomes for students are emphasized. These follow concepts of the progressive-school movement: namely, that education should help the child to develop a lively interest in the world, to learn to think critically, to become an active member of the community, and to live successfully and happily in modern, democratic society. To that end, education should nurture in the child an openness to experience, a desire to learn in every situation, and an impulse to continue to learn and develop throughout life.

Pinkerton Academy

http://www.pinkertonacademy.net

Pinkerton Academy is located in Derry, New Hampshire where it was incorporated in 1814 by Major John Pinkerton and Elder James Pinkerton. It is the largest independent academy in the United States serving 3,400 students as the high school (grades 9 - 12) for the communities of Derry, Hampstead and Chester. The Academy is a private non-profit corporation administered by a Headmaster, who in turn acts under the direction of an elected fourteen member Board of Trustees. The Academy is set on a large New England campus. Since the original four-room Old Academy Building opened in 1815, nine major buildings have been constructed including the new Arts and Humanities Center dedicated in September, 2002. In addition to these major buildings, eight smaller buildings that serve specific needs are scattered around the scenic campus. The Pinkerton Academy family believes that students need to acquire the skills, values, behaviors, and knowledge that are essential for a successful role in society. Students also need to develop skills, talents, and abilities to pursue their future endeavors and to improve themselves and others. The Pinkerton Academy faculty understands that students learn best through a variety of styles and multiple intelligences.
