College preparation

The San Diego Met

http://roosevelt.sandi.net

At the San Diego MET we focus on college preparation. Students must research 3 colleges each quarter so that by graduation time, students will have researched approximately 48 different colleges. The San Diego MET also focuses on preparing students for the real world. When students first start at the MET a class called Business Environments must be completed. This class is taught by the school's LTI coordinator Jill Badger. During this 9 week course, the students will learn how to make a resume, go on an interview, and how to handle any problems that they may occur at work sites. After they complete this 9 week course the student will have to find a business that supports their field of interest, the student then will have to call the business to set up an interview. After the student goes on the interview they will set up what is called a "shadow day". The shadow day is where the student goes and follows the potential mentor around for the day to see if the job supports their interests. After the shadow day if the student is interested in working at the internship they then have the mentor fill out the paperwork and set up a starting date. Students will attend their internship every Tuesday and Thursday for a minimum of ten weeks.
