Mastery Charter Schools

http://www.masterycharter.org

Mastery Charter Schools is a growing network of middle and high schools in Philadelphia designed to fulfill our mission of preparing all students for success in higher education and the global economy. Mastery's first school, the Lenfest Campus in Center City, was founded in September 2001 by a coalition of business, academic, and civic leaders. In 2005, 2006 and 2007 the School District of Philadelphia invited Mastery to convert three low performing District schools, the Thomas Middle School in South Philadelphia and Shoemaker Middle School in West Philadelphia, and the Pickett Middle School in Germantown into Mastery Charter schools, eventually serving grades 7-12. Today, Mastery's four schools enroll nearly 1,500 students. Mastery plans to open additional schools in the coming years. Mastery's program is unique in three essential ways. First, we utilize a mastery-based grading and promotion system that challenges all students to reach rigorous academic standards. Second, we explicitly teach problem solving and social-emotional skills so that graduates have the life tools to be successful in today's society and the global economy. Third, we integrate modern management and educational best practices to drive a results-focused organizational culture. Mastery insists on both high expectations and high support so all students can achieve success.

Imagine Schools

http://www.imagineschools.com

At Imagine Schools, we devote ourselves to creating joy-filled schools in which all are valued, all are responsible for their actions, and all are working toward the common goal of student success. This means that we do "whatever it takes" to ensure that our schools reflect those commitments. Our principals take the lead by contributing their work and talents in the same way. We strongly believe in enabling our principals to become decision-makers in the key areas that affect school success, including financial oversight of the school. Our principals are leaders in implementing decentralized leadership and shared decision-making throughout the school. Imagine Schools provides families with a high-quality Educational Program and moral development in a safe, nurturing learning environment. We set high expectations for our students, our staff, and our leaders. We grade ourselves in Six Measures of Excellence that we believe mark a successful school. We hold ourselves accountable in the same way that we hold our students accountable. School leaders who display the following traits are key to the success of our schools: • a pursuit of integrity and good character modeling • a dedication to building meaningful community • visionary leadership committed to high standards for all • a creative approach to facing challenges undefined Starting and operating an excellent charter school requires an effective academic and organizational leader who is flexible, mission-centered, and ready to commit to the time and effort required to achieve success. To help in this process, Imagine Schools provides school leaders with support, resources, experience, and practical help to implement the Imagine Schools' mission of helping parents to educate their children.
