The Einstein Project , Inc.

http://www.einsteinproject.org

A few Wisconsin districts create their own centralized science resource centers - hiring staff to coordinate the use of units, refurbishment and repair of kits, and, in some cases, actually constructing units. Since 1991, The Einstein Project has been offering schools an alternative that saves time and money while providing just what is needed for effective inquiry-based teaching. Because of the volume of units we have acquired, our ability to buy replacement supplies in bulk, and a warehouse staff able to handle refurbishments in a highly efficient manner, The Einstein Project can help schools control costs. In addition, our warehouse and delivery system give schools what they need "just-in-time," thus keeping school space free for more important uses than storage. So how do the costs break down? Let's look at theoretical District X located somewhere in Wisconsin. For some courses, the cost to the district of leasing one Einstein science unit would be $200. Because we focus on quality science education, not just supplying material, the school would also pay a one-time fee for training for the teacher in how to use the unit most effectively with his or her students. Comparatively, the cost to buy or build a similar science unit would be around $850. With refurbishment and repair costs running about $200 a year, it would take only a short time for the district's direct expenditure to have already exceeded the price of an Einstein lease. And time the faculty might have used teaching, instead of assembling materials, is not even part of the equation. Of course we're biased. We see the efficiency that our system provides to districts. Fortunately, more schools every year see how well the Einstein programs works. Unit leases have increased about 600% since 1993. But then our goal is not "growing the business." Our goal is getting hands-on science learning to children, because that's how they learn science best and learn to love science.
