Under the artistic leadership of Christopher House since 1994, Toronto Dance Theatre has become internationally recognized for intelligent, visually stunning contemporary performance. Founded in 1968 by Peter Randazzo, Patricia Beatty and David Earle, TDT is dedicated to the creation of original works that celebrate the power of the human imagination. The company has had a profound influence on Canadian dance. With formidable kinetic imagination and a unique poetic sensibility, Christopher House is one of Canada's leading choreographers. His works are acclaimed for their rich movement invention, subversive wit and deft handling of multiple layers of meaning. House's most recent productions are complex collaborations that have transformed the face of TDT and of dance in Canada. TDT's dancers number among the country's best. Remarkable individuals who play an essential role in the creative process, they are rightly celebrated for the breadth of their theatrical skills along with virtuoso technique, physical daring and powerful ensemble work. Under House's direction, TDT has also developed a variety of new programs including Four at the Winch, a showcase for emerging choreographers, and The Process Revealed, a presentation series that demystifies the creative process. TDT performs regularly at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre and its own Winchester Street Theatre. The company tours across Canada and to the United States, Europe and Asia. The Professional Training Program of The School of TDT was established by David Earle in 1979 as a separate entity from the company, with their shared core of language drawn from Graham technique. The School has served as the foundation and inspiration of generations of dancers.
