LaLa Pictures is owned and operated by Andrew Arbuthnot, a self taught producer born in Queensland Australia. Andrew has worked for companies including the BBC, Channel 4, PolyGram Films and Nickelodeon where he's gained invaluable experience in production, marketing and distribution. In 1996-1997 Andrew sat on the board of an independent film organisation, Brisbane Independent Filmmakers, which now operates under the name of QPIX. Andrew has been invited to join film boards and committees for the independent film sector and has served on a film commissioning selection panel for the NSW Film & Television Office. At 19 Andrew produced his first short film, Patsy's Party, which won him Best Producer award at the Warner Brothers Queensland New Filmmaker Awards. Since then he has continued producing and distributing short films for which he successfully secured distribution contracts. His last two shorts Contact and Hitch Cock were huge festival hits, the latter sweeping 50 festivals and securing broadcast with Canal+ France and SBS Australia. Andrew is currently in pre-production on The Savage Garden written by John Lonie, and to be directed by Peter Andrikidis in late 2007. Casting to date includes Josiane Balasko (Too Beautiful For You, French Twist), Dani (Night For Day) and Christopher Egan (Eragon, Virgin Territory). In 2006 LaLa Pictures formed a co-production partnership with Jean-Claude Fleury's Paris based production company Squares Productions Internationales to produce two Franco-Australian films over the next years. Jean-Claude Fleury has produced over 25 feature films, he just released the 22-million-euro epic Jacquou le croquant for Pathe. Jean-Claude was in charge of green lighting countless projects when he worked at CIBY 2000, notably The Piano and Twin Peaks.
