Hood Packaging Corporation

http://www.hoodpackaging.com

One of North America's fasted growing packaging manufacturers, Hood Packaging Corporation came into being in 1959 when Mississippi Chemical Corporation of Yazoo City, Mississippi established a local bag plant to serve their packaging needs. Calling the new business First Packaging, the company struggled along with little success. In 1961, the company was sold to an investment company and renamed Southern Bag Corporation. The new company broadened its customer base and refocused its business on quality and service. It quickly became profitable and for three decades remained a single plant operation. In 1991, major change came to Southern Bag Corporation when the company decided to considerably expand operations in the packaging business. The new focus was on making Southern Bag Corporation a major packaging player through well-planned acquisitions, by significantly improving in the ability to serve high value-added markets, and by becoming the industry leader in quality and service. Expansion began in 1991, when Southern Bag acquired the multiwall packaging division of Georgia Pacific, gaining new plants in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and Hamlet, North Carolina. In 1992, Patria Packaging of Valdosta, Georgia joined the family. 1995 saw the realization of a long-term Southern Bag dream with the opening of a state-of-the-art graphics, pre-press,and printing center in Anniston, Alabama. Anniston helped to give Southern Bag industry leadership in quality printing. In 1996, Southern Bag achieved another milestone when it acquired the US operations of Sengewald, Inc. which consisted of plants in St. Paul, Minnesota and Grand Forks, North Dakota. These plants allowed Southern Bag Corporation to move into the rapidly growing plastic packaging market. The new operations were named Hood Flexible Packaging. 1997 saw another significant expansion of Southern Bag Corporation when it acquired the Kraft paper packaging division of International Paper, consisting of plants in Pittsburg, Kansas and Wilmington, Ohio. In 1998, Hood Flexible acquired All-Pak, Inc. of Decatur, Georgia. These new facilities further expanded both Southern Bag's geographic base and its manufacturing capabilities. In its biggest acquisition to date, Southern Bag's parent organization, the Hood Companies, bought Bonar Packaging in 1999. With six plastic and paper packaging plants in Canada, and one in the United States, Bonar was the largest multiwall producer in Canada. In 2001, Southern Bag Corporation and Bonar Packaging joined to form Hood Packaging Corporation. Immediately recognized as a major player in the packaging industry, Hood Packaging became the world's third largest supplier of multiwall paper packaging, one of the top 50 US suppliers of consumer plastic packaging, and is the leading North American producer of industrial plastic packaging. In mid-2005, Hood Packaging created Hood Global, an offspring company devoted to finding high quality, low-cost alternatives for raw materials and finished goods outside the US and Canada. In late 2005, Hood Packaging acquired Exopack's Monticello, Arkansas multiwall bag plant. With the goal of transforming it into the most state-of-the art multiwall plant in North America, the Yazoo City and Pine Bluff operations were consolidated and relocated to the Monticello "super plant." With new equipment, self-directed work teams, and a fresh outlook, this plant promises to take Hood Packaging to the next level of manufacturing, service and satisfaction. In late 2006, Hood Packaging International acquired Glopak, Inc. of Montreal, a fully integrated plastic packaging converter with facilities in Montreal, Quebec and Cornwall, Ontario. Glopak specializes in the manufacture of liquid packaging. Hood Packaging Corporation's growth, however, has not just been through acquisition. Boasting certification to the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System standard in all of its operations and an enviable reputation for industry-leading quality and service, Hood Packaging has emerged as the company of choice for packaging buyers who put a premium on purchasing packaging that arrives on time and works. With the best graphics and printing capabilities in the business, Hood Packaging is a leading player in those markets where print excellence is a must. Still small enough to have the personal touch, but large enough to serve the most demanding customers worldwide, Hood Packaging Corporation is a firm where its motto -- Consider It Done! -- is a way of life.
