AmerAlia, Inc., a natural resources company, with others, develops and manages natural chemical resources. Natural Soda, Inc., a subsidiary of the Company, produces naturally occurring sodium bicarbonate from its Bureau of Land Management leases covering 9,543 acres in Northwest Colorado. It has a solution mining and processing plant capable of producing more than 100,000 tons per year. It markets almost all grades of sodium bicarbonate, commonly called baking soda. Natural Soda also owns a reservoir and water rights in the Colorado River drainage system. The sodium leases and adjacent areas also contain large oil shale resources. Natural Soda does not own rights to the oil shale but intends to apply for title if regulations to lease the oil shale resources are promulgated and approved by the federal government.
Natural Soda produces pure natural sodium bicarbonate from its extensive nahcolite leases which cover more than 9,400 acres. Our processing facility is located about 54 miles northwest of Rifle, Colorado, in an area known as the Piceance Creek Basin. Nacholite deposits, nestled 1,900 feet below ground, are a naturally-occurring form of pure sodium bicarbonate. The recovery of this natural sodium bicarbonate uses the simple process of injecting hot water into the nahcolite beds, dissolving the nahcolite which is subsequently extracted as pure sodium bicarbonate crystals as the hot brine is cooled. The Piceance Creek Basin contains North America's only known significant deposit of nacholite and is the only commercially significant resource. For customers and distributors, this means our recovered nacholite guarantees you a pure and reliable source of natural sodium bicarbonate. Penrice Soda Holdings Limited is an Australia-based company. The principal activities of the Company consist of the manufacture, distribution and sales of soda ash and sodium bicarbonate and the mining, distribution and sale of quarry and mineral products. Soda ash is sold into the Australian market for use in the manufacture of glass containers (typically wine bottles), flat glass, washing powders and mining applications. Sodium bicarbonate is sold domestically, as well as exported with end-uses, including animal feed, food, kidney dialysis, personal care and pharmaceutical products.
