Polyplastics' 40-year history parallels the history of the development of plastics. Polyplastics Co., Ltd. was established in June 1962 as a joint venture of the Japanese company Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd. and the U.S. company Celanese Corporation (now Ticona) to import and sell engineering plastics. The company's name, Polyplastics, combines "poly,"which means "many"or "an assembly,"and "plastics."The name reflects our wish to be a company that conducts many kinds of plastics businesses. In August of the year it was established, Polyplastics began sales of DURACON, a polyacetal that was gaining attention at the time as a promising alternative to metal. In 1968, we began domestic production of DURACONin Japan. In the 1970s, demand escalated rapidly for DURACONby manufacturers in the automotive, electrical and electronics, and other industries. In the 1980s, partly as a result of the progress of molding technology, Polyplastics completed the world's largest, state-of-the-art manufacturing plant. Since then, as a general engineering plastics manufacturer, Polyplastics has engaged in diversified product development and now offers a wide lineup of super-engineering plastics including VECTRA liquid crystal polymer, FORTRON PPS resin, and Topas COC resins, which have excellent optical properties. In the 1990s, we established several business operation in the Asian-Pacific region. In addition to offshore production plants in Ta Fa. Taiwan and Kuantan, Malaysia, we now have a plant in Nantong, China in full-scale production. As a leading engineering plastics company, our motto is "Thorough technical support at every stage from product design to molding."We provide a full range of technical services geared to customer needs that deal not only with the properties of our industrial engineering plastics materials, but also molding technology and long-term product performance testing. In recent years, people are focusing on the major theme of man's harmonious coexistence with the global environment. Manufacturers in the automotive industry and many other industries are actively involved in plastics recycling. In addition, companies, conscious of their corporate social responsibility, are thoroughly implementing compliance activities in order to ensure corporate transparency. Confident of the limitless possibilities of plastic materials, Polyplastics will make every effort to achieve sustained development that matches that of local communities and the global environment, as we engage in continuous research and development of a variety of products and services.
