Incorporated in 1963, Handling Specialty is a private company whose corporate headquarters are located in Grimsby, Ontario. Given the North American reach of the company's products, manufacturing facilities can be found both in Canada (Grimsby) and the United States (Niagara Falls, New York). Over the years, Handling Specialty has evolved from a small fabricator of floor cranes to an innovator in the North American lifting systems (material handling) industry. Handling Specialty's reputation is one of a competent problem-solver because it has built a reputation on providing unique, custom-engineered solutions. Notable examples of Handling Specialty's technical prowess include the Bellagio Theater's underwater stage lift system which achieved Guinness World Record standing; a ten-year history of providing skillet lifts to the North American automotive industry;supplying Amtrak's North-East Corridor project with split rail wheel removal systems, and wing assembly platforms for the F-35 Lightening II fighter aircraft, to name a few. This ability to solve problems has allowed Handling Specialty to achieve success in many sectors including automotive, aerospace, entertainment, transportation and metal processing industries. The breadth of this talent is best illustrated in the Specialty Solutions section of this site. Customized lifting systems are manufactured and designed by one of the Company's two divisions, the Engineered Products Group (EPG). Given the technical requirements of these made-to-order products, EPG has its own dedicated sales force and engineering department. Over the years, Handling Specialty has developed a coterie of standard products which are sold through its second division, internally referred to as the Standard Products Group (SPG). Available SPG products include Fork-Levator and Excalibur brands of fork truck service lifts, and Porta-Vator moving systems. Changes to standard products are not uncommon, which is why SPG can depend upon EPG's professional engineering support. Handling Specialty has a special relationship with several other companies: Trans-Quip Inc., OSA-LATOR Manufacturing and Questica Inc. OSA-LATOR Manufacturing sells OSA-LATOR® Indexing Tables into the US and Canadian markets respectively. Trans-Quip Inc. serves as the Canadian Master Distributor for Joyce® linear actuation products (including screw jacks, various screw jack accessories, and speed reducers), IBC's line of custom sewn bellows, PalletPal® Ergonomic Equipment and the SERAPID Rigid Chain system. During the Company's evolution, software was developed in-house to assist in the operating cycle of engineered-to-order products. The success of this software led to a spin-off company, Questica Inc., whose growth continues today. The people and experience of Handling Specialty are a testament to a company that is continuing to evolve. With on-going recruitment of talented people, quality improvements, and a willingness to raise the standard, Handling Specialty's occupies a unique position in the material handling field.
