Werling & Sons, Inc. is a family-owned and operated stockyard and meat market and has been in existence since 1886. The company was founded by Joseph A. Werling, who managed a meat market, and the first plant was built in 1946 by Albert Werling, Joseph's son. Meat has been processed and packaged for individual home freezers at this plant since 1956. In 1966, beef was canned in metal cans. In the years that followed, Werling's has also been canning pork, chicken and turkey. In the canning process, raw meat is placed in cans, the cans are sealed, and the product is cooked in it's natural juices. Werling's canned meats have become popular because of their convenience, low fat content, and non-refrigerated shelf-life. They also contain no preservatives. A retail store at the processing plant offers frozen cuts of beef and pork, custom processing, our ever popular canned meats, and our award-winning summer sausages. Werling and Sons, Inc. is located in Burketsville, Ohio, between Mercer and Darke Counties (two of the leading agricultural counties in Ohio).

Kurowycky Meat Products was founded in 1955 by my grandfather Erast Kurowycky. His first store was located on Avenue B between 10th and 11th streets in New York City's East Village. Upon my grandfather's retirement in 1973, my father Jaroslaw took over, and in the process of expanding our facilities moved the shop to its present location on First Avenue, where it is currently in the hands of the third generation. We continue to operate one of the last existing smokehouses in New York City and still manufacture our sausages using the same methods that were used in Eastern Europe before the Second World War.

Lois served on the board of directors of the Tennessee Emu Association (TNEA) since 2000, serving as president until 2004 and then serving as vice-president. Lois currently serves on the board of directors for the Tennessee Ratite Association having served there as president from 2001-2003. During Lois's tenure on the TNEA and TRA board of directors, the Tennessee emu industry has enjoyed great relations with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, the middle Tennessee school systems and several middle Tennessee hospitals. BackCountry Emu Products is also authorized to use the AEA Certified Fully Refined Emu Oil Seal on all of its emu oil having a batch number on file with the American Emu Association that has met the specifications for Fully-Refined Oil.
