Fleabitten Productions

http://www.fleabittenproductions.com

Fleabitten Productions is a theatre company dedicated to the creation of quality, professional entertainment that is both intelligent and accessible. It is our goal to provide a safe environment for artists to create and audiences to enjoy theatrical entertainment of all kinds. Fleabitten is the brain-child of Gregory Cohen and Joe Hogan. Developed out of a love for all aspects of theatre, Greg and Joe decided to pool their resources, talents, and energy into creating theatre in a fun, friendly environment. Because of their avid love for dogs, Greg felt the name "Fleabitten" was an appropriate name for their new endeavor. Because Joe's Basset, Winston, has the perfect "sad face", and Greg's Welsh Corgi, Phoebe, seemed to wear a constant smirk, Joe suggested that Fleabitten's logo should be a twist on the comedy and tragedy masks. Thanks to the artistic talents of Anthony Lazalde, the logo was created and Fleabitten Productions was born.

Shakespeare Festival/LA

http://www.shakespearefestivalla.org

Twenty years later, Shakespeare Festival/LA continues to create accessible theater that serves and builds community in innovative, unexpected ways. In 1993, the organization expanded to include outreach programs such as Will Power to Youth, an academic enrichment program that combines hands-on artistic experience with paid job training, specifically created to provide arts education to at-risk youth. The program has been so successful that in 2005, First Lady Laura Bush attended a Will Power to Youth performance in Los Angeles as part of a regional tour of exemplary youth programs. Will Power to Youth is currently being replicated across the country as part of the federal government's Gang Reduction Programs.

Pig Iron Theatre Company

http://www.pigiron.org

Founded in 1995 as an interdisciplinary ensemble, Pig Iron Theatre Company is dedicated to the creation of new and exuberant performance works that defy easy categorization. In the past 11 years the company has created 20 original works and has toured to festivals and theatres in England, Scotland, Poland, Lithuania, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Romania and Germany. The body of Pig Iron's work is eclectic and daring. Individual works have been inspired by history and biography (POET IN NEW YORK, 1997 and ANODYNE, 2001), rock music (MISSION TO MERCURY, 2000 and JAMES JOYCE IS DEAD AND SO IS PARIS: THE LUCIA JOYCE CABARET, 2003), American kitsch culture (CAFETERIA, 1997), serendipity (DIG OR FLY, 1996 and THE SNOW QUEEN, 1999), and fallen heroes (THE ODYSSEY, 1995 and THE TRAGEDY OF JOAN OF ARC, 1998). In 2001, Pig Iron collaborated with legendary theatre director Joseph Chaikin (1935-2003) to create an exploration of sleep, dreams and consciousness (SHUT EYE). In 2005, Pig Iron won an OBIE Award for HELL MEETS HENRY HALFWAY, an adaptation of Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz's novel POSSESSED. In 2006, Pig Iron was named Theatre Company of the Year in the Philadelphia Weekly. Pig Iron calls itself a "dance-clown-theatre ensemble" - our focus moves from character to space to contact with the audience. Individual pieces have been called "soundscape and spectacle," "cabaret-ballet," and "avant-garde shadow puppet dessert-theatre." We have a hard time sitting still. Pig Iron often stages performances in found spaces or transforms existing spaces as suits the production: an photo exhibit becomes a subterranean Polish orphanage (ANODYNE, 2001); a mental institution becomes a rock cabaret (JAMES JOYCE IS DEAD); and an archeological dig turns into Amelia Earhart's final voyage (DIG OR FLY). The company has performed in nightclubs, church basements, warehouses, and Romanian forts as well as traditional theatres. The company's productions are developed over a long period of time in workshops, in conversations among the company members, and in rehearsal. The plays continue to develop well after opening night. Many of the works remain in the company's repertory for several years after their first public performance. Currently, Pig Iron is composed of 3 artistic directors and 5 company members, in addition to an administrative staff and board of directors. The company made Philadelphia its permanent home in 1997; though individual pieces are often developed in residency at other theatres or at universities, we premiere all our work in our hometown of Philadelphia.
