Centene Corporation is a multi-line healthcare enterprise operating primarily in two segments: Medicaid Managed Care and Specialty Services. The Company’s Medicaid Managed Care segment provides Medicaid and Medicaid-related health plan coverage to individuals through government subsidized programs, including Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and Supplemental Security Income Program (SSI). As of December 31, 2007, Medicaid accounted for 74% of the Company’s membership, while SCHIP and SSI accounted for 20% and 6%, respectively. Centene Corporation’s Specialty Services segment provides specialty services, including behavioral health, life and health management, long-term care programs, managed vision, nurse triage, pharmacy benefits management and treatment compliance, to state programs, healthcare organizations and other commercial organizations, as well as to its own subsidiaries on market-based terms.
