STARTech is a business accelerator that was created in 1997 to provide a unique service facilitating the successful creation of fledging technology companies. While capital had been available to early stage companies and some level of business support could be found, it was a haphazard, time consuming, and frustrating process for the entrepreneur. STARTech has solved this problem. Created with the cooperation of local government, key Texas-based Venture Capitalist (VCs) and the support of leading high-tech industry partners, the concept quickly took hold.
Based in Richardson, Texas (a technology savvy center of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex), STARTech seeks visionary entrepreneurs based in Texas and Oklahoma. STARTech participates early in a company life cycle, working with the technology founder who has invested his or her time and perhaps received some financial support from friends, and family, and/or angel investors.
At this critical early stage juncture, STARTech can provide a vast array of services including business experience, rapid introduction to influential contacts and financial support in the form of seed capital to assist the fledging business. The entrepreneur gains access to significant knowledge, avoiding the inevitable pitfalls and mistakes most start-ups endure.
During this seed stage, the new company can validate the business/market opportunity, initiate initial design customers, craft early product prototypes, and round out its management team.
STARTech looks for technology-based companies that have the opportunity to grow into a $50M company in 5-7 years that fit into the following sectors:
Telecom
Software
Life Sciences
Semiconductor
Nanotechnology
Energy
Sensor Networks
