We provide insurance for aircraft and aviation-related operations. That's all we do, and we've been doing it since 1963. But the Hope Insurance story starts the decade before. Founded in 1954 as Hope Insurance Agency with Stuart C. Hope Sr. and a partner, the agency provided multi-line property/casualty coverage and life insurance products. Everything began to change in 1963 when Stuart obtained his Private Pilot license and began writing aviation insurance coverage. In the mid-1960s, Stuart was writing so much aviation insurance while his partner was concentrating on more traditional business that the two decided it would be better for their customers if they dissolved the agency to start their own insurance agencies. From then on, it was nothing but aviation insurance for Stuart Hope Sr., who started the Stuart Hope Agency. His children, who had learned about flying, aircraft and insurance from their father, began to join the firm. First Marion Hope, Stuart Hope's eldest son, joined the firm in 1973, followed by Stuart Hope, Jr. in 1975. Their sister, Mena Hope Gardiner, came on board in 1980. Stuart Hope, Sr. retired in 1985. The agency continued to operate as a sole proprietorship until 1987. In July of 1987, the agency was incorporated under the laws of South Carolina as The Stuart Hope Agency, Inc. The Hope children purchased the agency in December 1991. In March 1993, the corporate name was changed to Hope Aviation Insurance, Inc. to reflect the current ownership of Marion Hope, Stuart Hope Jr., and Mena Hope Gardiner. The company continues its growth and expansion. In May of 1997, Hope Aviation hired Hugh W. White, previously with USAIG for 26 years, retiring as vice president and manager of their Atlanta branch office. He opened a satellite office (affectionately known as "Hope West") in Marble Hill, Georgia, near Atlanta which he ran with excellence along with his wife Patti until retiring in 2005. Eric Barfield, also an experienced underwriter with USAIG, is another strong addition to the staff who joined the team in June, 1998. Finally, Shannon Hope joined the firm in September 2004 and represents the third generation of Hope's commitment to the traditions and value of a family business. Shannon is Stuart Hope's son. Today the three owners head a financially strong and prosperous agency with a total staff of 14. Marion Hope, Stuart Hope, Eric Barfield, and Shannon Hope handle commercial production, which includes primarily turbine aircraft, rotorwing and airport liability.
